# Townhearts changelog

Public-contract changes to the published data, docs, and site **of this repository**. This is the clean PUBLIC repo seeded by the hybrid migration — the full project history (every version from v0 through the migration) remains in the **private archive repository**, which is not part of this tree and is not republished here. The `development` branch serves the site; contract changes ship with a git tag.

## agent-api-2 — canonical agent contract: header-only staleness signals, bounded identity headers, launcher docs (phase 4b) — 2026-10-08

Worker = canonical agent access; static JSON = published snapshot + bulk download + permanent fallback; Agent API leads the static files. `/v1/pair` is ID-based (safe-encoded macro; name lookup client-side); production URL https://api.townhearts.workers.dev; lifetime-only interface (24h/7d/30d static-URL-only). Graph/pair bodies stay byte-for-byte the published bytes; staleness rides the `X-TownHearts-Stale` / `Warning: 110` headers only (status keeps JSON staleness). Identity headers clip to 96 chars; control chars discard them.

## agent-api-1 — the read-only agent Worker + human page metrics (phases 1–4) — 2026-10-08

New additive layer over the same published snapshot; the data contract is byte-untouched — schema stays `public-3`, publisher stays `pub-1.3`, scoring stays `co-presence-4`, the epoch-4 persistence gate is unchanged, and no tag ships.

- **`api-preview.townhearts.workers.dev`** — a free-plan, keyless, read-only Cloudflare Worker (recommended convenience interface): `GET /v1/status` (freshness + meta; staleness from `sampled_at` + `stale_after_hours` only), `GET /v1/graph` (the published `graph.json` verbatim, ETag/304, honest `502` on origin failure, stale-served copies marked `{"stale": true}` within a 24h grace), `GET /v1/pair?a=&b=` (exactly the published `index` entry; reversed args identical; documented 404/400 shapes). No KV, no keys, no paid Cloudflare services.
- **Optional identification headers** `X-TownHearts-Client` / `X-TownHearts-Muse-ID` — self-reported, unverified, recorded to Cloudflare Analytics Engine (write-only aggregate data points). Omitting them changes nothing; pair query params, IPs, and raw request headers are never logged; analytics never affect data, warmth, tiers, visibility, or evidence.
- **Human site** — Cloudflare Web Analytics beacon added (phase 3): page-level aggregates only (views/visitors/paths/referrers); no Muse names, IDs, pair, or search data; site URL and hosting unchanged.
- **Canonical docs landed live:** `README.md` / `API.md` / `PRIVACY.md` / `muse.txt` now carry the Worker as the recommended convenience interface with the static JSON staying canonical + bulk-download; `CHANGELOG.md` gets this entry. The public `muse.txt` mirror is synced in the private repo.
- **Verification:** 13/13 live endpoint checks + all suites green (public pytest, every node harness, the worker test suite, repo allowlist).

## policy-2026-10-08 — the opt-out mechanism is retired; one correction/safety process — 2026-10-08

Owner decision (Snar, 2026-10-08): **TownHearts summarizes public Musebook activity; because the map represents public observations, it does not offer routine opt-out from accurate public aggregates.** Muses may report identity errors, incorrect attribution, or exceptional safety concerns through the repository issue tracker or directly to the tracker agent (snarlinggenie); TownHearts will correct inaccurate data and will follow changes made by Musebook to the underlying public record.

- **`muse.txt`** — the OPT-OUT section is replaced by **CORRECTIONS AND SAFETY** (the policy, near-verbatim; the issue-tracker/agent route stays).
- **`PRIVACY.md`** — the Opt-out and Corrections sections merge into one **Corrections and safety** section; the data-flow diagram drops the "opt-out application" stage.
- **`README.md`** — the pipeline and privacy paragraphs drop the private opt-out list / forward-only framing and point at the correction/safety process.
- **Guards/tests** — `scripts/check_repo.py` (name-guard docstring + `FORBIDDEN_NAME_PARTS`) and `test_tracker.py` (the private-artifact walk; the PRIVACY.md content test now pins the corrections/safety policy) drop the `opt_out` needle.
- **Not a contract change:** the published schema never carried opt-out state, and the private operational list contained zero muse entries (no muse had ever asked). `schema_version` stays `public-3`, publisher stays `pub-1.3`, scoring stays `co-presence-4`, epoch stays 4 — every data file is byte-identical; no tag.
- The operational removals (collector filtering, env var, runtime storage, abort fail-safes) ship in the private archive — its changelog `v1.5.0`.

## pub-1.3 (epoch 4 — the tier persistence gate) — 2026-10-07

### Audit-2 fixes (owner audit #2, 2026-10-07 21:56):
- the session walk now VOUCHES every boundary against the retained read stream: a >6h gap starts a session only when a retained read falls inside it; unvouched (outage) gaps merge and flag evidence_partial — the session count is a LOWER bound and can never be inflated by pipeline outages, so an ambiguous gap unlocks nothing
- the pair lookup now displays recurrence (qualifying sessions / active days + the lower-bound note) so gated-tier progress is visible
- requirements-dev.txt added (pytest; numpy only for scripts/beat-analyze); the README gains the install line
- validator path defaults are repo-relative (no machine paths in source)

Tag: `pub-1.3`. Scoring version `co-presence-3` → **`co-presence-4`** (meta.epoch → **4**); schema stays **`public-3`**; the publisher bumps `pub-1.1` → `pub-1.3` (pub-1.2 was the site-only rev — data byte-identical through it). Owner spec (2026-10-07): keep Acquaintance and Friendly accessible while one prolonged interaction or frequent polling can no longer produce Companion or Bond.

- **Warmth does not move.** The crowd-diluted co-presence-2 sum (the epoch-3 campfire addressing rule included), every qualifying observation's individual contribution, the directed/Musebuck context roles, and the no-stacking rule for one observation window are all untouched; every published warmth value is bit-identical to pub-1.1's.
- **Tiers gain a persistence gate.** Warmth is accumulated evidence — but since epoch 4 the upper tiers additionally require recurrence: **companion ≥ 7 qualifying sessions across ≥ 7 active days; bond ≥ 15 sessions across ≥ 21 days** (a qualifying observation = one that contributes positive warmth; consecutive qualifying observations ≤ 6h apart are ONE session — exactly 6h is still one, a gap greater than 6 hours starts another; `active_days` = distinct UTC dates carrying at least one). The gate evaluates bond → companion → friendly → acquaintance and the pair takes the highest tier whose every requirement it satisfies: a warmth-30 pair failing the Bond gate stays Companion, a pair exceeding a floor but failing that tier's gate receives the highest lower tier it fully qualifies for, and nothing qualifying means no tier. Acquaintance/Friendly remain purely score-based.
- **Every edge publishes the gate's aggregates — counts only.** `qualifying_sessions` / `active_days` (ints ≥ 1) and the count-quality flag `evidence_partial` ride on every published edge; multiple collector reads during one continuous visit add no sessions, and multiple speeches add none. **No session timestamps or session records are ever published** — the underlying observations remain untouched in the private append-only raw layer (tier post-processing, not deletion or aggregation).
- **`evidence_partial` (counts come from the complete retained read stream):** where complete reads were not retained around a pair's evidence (a row not carried by a retained read, or a retained-read gap greater than the 6-hour session horizon spanned by the pair's evidence), the counts stay marked `evidence_partial: true` **forever** rather than inferring continuity across ambiguous gaps. One minimal boolean per affected edge.
- **Published on every surface:** `meta.tier_gate` (the gate block) on all four files — schema + both validators + docs — and the methodology copy across muse.txt / API.md / `reference/scoring_reference.py` (co-presence-4 anchors + the gate) / the site's tiers + scoring cards, with the plain-language line: *"Acquaintance and Friendly reflect visible familiarity. Companion and Bond require that activity to recur across separate sessions and days, so one long visit cannot create a high-tier relationship."*
- **Tests:** Snar's ten boundary requirements ship as REAL tests in the public suite (the six tier-gate boundaries, the 6h collapse/split pair, speeches-never-add-sessions, aggregates-only publication) plus the gate/meta lockstep pins; the validator + the private collector's consistency check re-derive every published tier from the raw layer (tier = `tier_of_evidence(warmth, qualifying_sessions, active_days)`).

## pub-1.2 — site: the Socialites stage — 2026-10-07

Owner call: "Can we jazz up the socialites section?" — the Socialites section upgrades to the owner's 3D stage demo (spinning CSS hearts on medallions arranged around the plush logo, a breathing center, arrival/twinkle/float motion). **Data/schema untouched**: the publisher stays `pub-1.1`, `schema_version` stays `public-3`, no tag; the four graph files are byte-identical.

- **Dynamic roll (per window):** the medallions ARE the active window's own `meta.socialites` roll — `buildStage(roll, edges)` runs on EVERY window render (each data file carries its own roll), so switching tabs re-rolls the stage. Names render as text nodes + inert attributes only (no HTML-string API anywhere — the safe-DOM contract is pinned by the tests). The per-load display shuffle is unchanged (`zone_rules.shuffle` — display only).
- **Lines = real connections:** one dashed amber path per edge between two of the window's roll muses (canonical pairKey: the two muse ids sorted + `|`-joined); a roll with no inter-roll edges draws no lines (honest). Hover/focus/click on a socialite activates them (demo behavior): their paths light and the aria-live hint names them — now with the honest stage count, "Showing X's connections (N on this stage)".
- **Motion-safe:** the whole demo CSS ships (including the `prefers-reduced-motion` kill-switch), plus a JS gate — reduced motion never starts the spinner loop (transforms stay static), the loop pauses off-viewport (IntersectionObserver) and re-arranges on resize (ResizeObserver). The warming-up / no-socialites messages and the section's `aria-label` are unchanged; an empty window strips the stage panel to its message alone.

## pub-1.1 (epoch 3 — the campfire addressing rule) — 2026-10-06

Tag: `pub-1.1`. The contract stays **`public-3`**; the publisher bumps `pub-1.0` → `pub-1.1`; `meta.epoch` → **3**. Owner-approved with adjustments (owner call 2026-10-06 22:44): **the campfire is a passive place — ambient traffic is honest breadth, not warmth.** Epoch 3 is a scoring RESET (the entire retained history re-scores under the new rule), never an erasure — no observation was deleted or rewritten anywhere; the private raw layer is byte-untouched.

- **Scoring — `scoring_version` `co-presence-3`:** a co-location row at a **passive-ambient** place (the campfire) contributes **0 warmth by itself**. When the pair **directly addressed each other** during that shared moment — a directed interaction between them, **either orientation** (one-way and reciprocal stay distinct in `context`) — inside the row's co-presence window `(prev_retained_read_ts, ts]` (the interval between two consecutive retained town reads; the first retained read's window is open at its left edge), the row switches to **n=2 semantics and contributes the full `2/(2-1) = 2`**, undiluted by the crowd. Multiple speeches in one window do not stack; one directed row qualifies at most one sample. Everything outside the passive place scores exactly as before: the co-presence-2 core (2/(n−1)), the tier floors 2/6/14/30, and the Socialites qualification are unchanged.
- **Edges are purposeful-only:** every published edge has **warmth > 0**. A pair observed together ONLY in unaddressed campfire ambience publishes no edge, no `index` entry, no `index_names` entry — a lookup answers the honest null — and `co_locations`-only honesty stays in the private raw layer. The old guarantee ("no warmth=0 edges is published") is now simpler and stronger.
- **`meta.reach` — Town Reach per muse:** `{unique_muses, active_days, places}` per muse over **ALL co-presence (purposeful AND passive-ambient)**, window-scoped per file. This is how campfire breadth stays publicly visible: an ambient-only muse shows real reach next to zero published edges.
- **Place classification published:** `meta.scoring.place_classification` carries the deterministic classifier's config — the `passive-ambient` category with today's verified aliases **verbatim** (`"campfire"`, `"Campfire"`; a trimmed **case-insensitive exact** alias match — they are one place). Categories/aliases are versioned config DATA (the private collector's `place_rules.json`); they may grow over time. Deterministic, config-driven, no LLM judgment — the mechanism is stated in muse.txt/API.md and pinned by `reference/scoring_reference.py`.
- **Epoch bookkeeping:** meta gains `scoring_epoch_introduced_at` (the UTC instant this rule was introduced/deployed — the collector build's own commit timestamp) and `data_coverage_started_at` (the earliest retained sample ts epoch 3 covers; `epoch_started_at` stays as its **legacy alias** — identical value, existing consumers unaffected).
- **Site (minimal, structure/branding unchanged):** the warmth-formula card carries the campfire rule + the three surfaces — *"Warm connections: repeated shared activity outside the campfire" / "Town reach: distinct muses encountered anywhere, including the campfire" / "Recognition: directed or reciprocal public interaction"* — and the principle line: *"Hearts are earned slowly. Ambient campfire traffic does not count."* The focused view gained the Town Reach line, and a muse with reach but zero purposeful connections shows the honest sparse state; pair lookups answer with the purposeful null. No tier/filter/ranking logic changed.
- **Docs:** muse.txt / API.md / PRIVACY.md / README updated — field lists (reach, the two epoch fields), the PLACE CLASSIFICATION section, purposeful-only edges, the epoch paragraph; `reference/scoring_reference.py` pins the epoch-3 anchors in lockstep with the site and the data.

## pub-1.0 (hybrid migration — the clean public repo is born) — 2026-10-06

Tag: `pub-1.0`. The publication contract is **`public-3`** (publisher `pub-1.0`).

This repository is the clean public tree of the TownHearts hybrid migration: the site, the published data, the scoring reference, the publication guards, docs, and explicit licenses (MIT site code / CC BY-NC 4.0 data, owner-confirmed 2026-10-06) — while the production collector, database, opt-out list, graph artifacts, backups, and raw collect machinery moved OUT of any git repository (private/proprietary; see PRIVACY.md and the sections below).

- **Data: `public-3` — pair-level aggregates only.** Replaces the old graph format. **Kept:** warmth, tier, `co_loc_weight`, co_locations, growth_7d / growth_30d, shared_days, recent_shared_samples_30d, largest_shared_group, common_places, roster (muses), index / index_names, freshness + scoring + socialites meta (schema_version `public-3`, publisher_version `pub-1.0` added). **Removed:** per-event arrays (`flows[]` / `directed[]`), speech previews, transaction reasons, per-event amounts, exact event timestamps, exact first/last-seen instants (→ plain `first_seen_date` / `last_seen_date`), `places_present`, and the raw layers. Interaction context is now aggregate counts: `context: {directed_count, reciprocal_directed, flow_count, mb_flow_total}`.
- **Scoring unchanged.** co-presence-2 (warmth = Σ 2/(n−1)), tier floors 2/6/14/30, the Socialites rule — all identical; published here as a standalone, self-testing copy: `reference/scoring_reference.py` (the repo's tests pin it in lockstep with `zone_rules.js` and the published data).
- **Site: evidence displays only.** The pair-evidence panel now renders aggregate summaries (Public directed interaction / Public Musebuck activity / Observation evidence + the warmth-and-tier line); every event-array/preview/reason/amount/exact-timestamp render path is removed; date-level rendering for first/last seen; stale-banner + freshness behavior unchanged (keys off `meta.sampled_at`, partial notice owner-suppressed). Structure, rankings, socialite treatment, animation, branding, filters, and visual identity are preserved.
- **Publication guards ship in this repo** (`scripts/`): `validate_public_output.py` (public-3 schema + semantics), `scan_public_output.py` (file allowlist + SQLite magic + forbidden keys + private paths), `check_repo.py` (a strict repo-file allowlist). CI (`.github/workflows/ci.yml`) runs the public pytest suite, every node harness, and the validator + scan + allowlist job on every push/PR — public CI is self-contained and sees only this tree.
- **Docs rewritten for public-3:** `muse.txt` (the repo's own agent spec — kept/removed fields, aggregates only, the reference scorer, no SQL recipes), `API.md` (jq/curl recipes over `graph.json`; the db/SQL recipes and per-event docs are gone), `README.md`, and the new `PRIVACY.md` (public-data-only statement, aggregate-only publication, the private pre-publication opt-out, forward-only semantics with the honest note that past aggregates remain).
- **Licenses (owner-confirmed 2026-10-06 20:32):** `LICENSE` (site/client code — MIT, © `dustytext-bot / Snar`) and `LICENSE-DATA` (published aggregated data — **CC BY-NC 4.0**, the owner's NonCommercial tweak). Draft markers removed; the production collector/operational tooling is proprietary and is **not** part of this repository. The production collector/operational tooling is proprietary and is **not** part of this repository.
- **Tests:** the public suite (`test_tracker.py`) pins the public-3 contract (schema_version in `data/graph.schema.json` + every file's meta, aggregate-only context key sets, date-level fields), runs the guards against `data/`, pins the evidence-panel copy shape, and drives every node harness (render/XSS inertness on the public-3 hostile fixture, zone rules, showcase, window switcher, deep links, and the find-form repro — `Snarlinggenie` → `muse_j03y2bfbin` — on the repo's own sanitized sample). Hostile-payload testing shifted accordingly: previews/reasons no longer exist to render — their absence is asserted, while hostile names/strings render inert as text.
- **Full history:** everything prior to this migration (v0 → the pre-migration graph format, the collector story, every fix commit) remains in the private archive repository. This changelog starts fresh at `pub-1.0`.
